How To Build a Shed Foundation

A Shed Foundation

Of all the years I have been building sheds, there is one method of building a shed foundation that has been the most widely accepted by county building inspectors.

This method is a wooden shed floor attached to skids which are in turn attached to posts which are anchored in the ground in concrete. Shed foundations built this way are sturdy, long lasting, and are widely approved by most countys if you are getting a building permit for your shed.

How Many Anchors

I know you are asking what the proper number of anchors is for your shed. The picture above is shown with 4 concrete anchors. Usually the minimum number of anchors will be two, and they would be opposite corners from each other.

If you are going to get a permit to build your shed, your county building department will answer this question for you. When I was building professionally, I only did 2 anchors if that's all I had to do. All other areas of the shed floor were supported with blocks or treated lumber to keep the shed floor level. Personally I would do at least 4 anchors as shown above.

Here Are The Steps...

One would think if not knowing any better to measure and dig your footer holes first, set your posts, pour concrete, then build the shed floor.

WRONG!!!
